A Riverside County jury found that sheriff’s deputies employed by the County of Riverside used excessive force against a Moreno Valley family, resulting in their son’s death. After a two week trial and days of deliberation, a jury of four women and eight men returned a $5.5 million verdict for the decedent’s two young children and family. The case took nearly five years. During that entire time, the County Board of Supervisors refused to approve any meaningful settlement. When the County chose denial over accountability, the jury delivered both.
